International Perspectives on English as a Lingua Franca Pedagogical Insights

English as a lingua franca (ELF) is recognised as the most interesting and controversial subject to have emerged in language teaching in the last 15 years. Hugo Bowles is Associate Professor of English at the University of Rome 'Tor Vergata', Italy, and specialises in English for specific purposes, literary stylistics and language education. He is co-editor of Conversation Analysis and Languages for Specific Purposes (2007) and author of Storytelling and Drama (2010) which won the 2012 ESSE Book Award for English Linguistics.

Alessia Cogo is Lecturer in Sociolinguistics at Goldsmiths, University of London, UK. She has written various papers and book chapters in the area of English as a Lingua Franca and, specifically, on ELF pragmatics and the interface between ELF and multilingualism. She is co-author with Martin Dewey of Analysing English as a Lingua Franca: A Corpus-driven Investigation (2012).
