K. A. Athanasiou is the Karl F. Hasselmann professor of bioengineering at Rice University and an adjunct professor of orthopaedics and oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Texas. He also heads the Musculoskeletal Bioengineering Laboratory at Rice University.
