An Introduction to Network Modeling and

This book provides the practicing engineer with a concise listing of commercial and open-source modeling and simulation tools currently available including examples of implementing those tools for solving specific Modeling and Simulation examples. Instead of focusing on the underlying theory of Modeling and Simulation and fundamental building blocks for custom simulations, this book compares platforms used in practice, and gives rules enabling the practicing engineer to utilize available Modeling and Simulation tools. This book will contain insights regarding common pitfalls in network Modeling and Simulation and practical methods for working engineers.

Jack Burbank, MS, is the Chief Scientist of the Communications and Networking Technologies Group of The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. His research interests include wireless networking and modeling and simulation, cognitive networking, ad-hoc networking, and the application and evaluation of standards-based wireless networking technologies for the military. Burbank also teaches networking and telecommunications within The Johns Hopkins University Part-Time Engineering Program. William Kasch, MS, leads the high-assurance networking section at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. His research interests include wireless network modeling and simulation, resilient tactical protocols, MANETs, IEEE 802 standards, and cellular technology. Kasch has actively contributed in the IETF and IEEE 802 standards communities on the topics of Network Time Protocol and military MANET scenario definitions. Jon Ward, PE, leads the wireless networking section of the Communications and Networking Technology Group at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. He has worked on several projects dedicated to network design and interference testing of standards-based wireless technologies.
