Joseph Chamberlain

This is the first complete, single-volume biography of Joseph Chamberlain, the Birmingham industrialist who by the beginning of the twentieth century had effectively become the ""first minister of the British Empire."" Marsh dissects Chamberlain's political career, revealing his unconventional approach to Britain's problems before the first World War and highlighting the discontinuities, in particular his shift from Liberal to Conservative and from free trade to protectionist.
