Leverett Wilson Spring (1840-1917) was an American author. In 1858, he entered Williams College, but had to give up study due to failing eyesight. He worked for a year as a clerk in a country store, becoming acquainted with all sorts and conditions of goods and wares and dispensing them to all sorts and conditions of customers. Later, his eyesight had recovered and he returned to college. After graduation, Spring entered the theological seminary at East Windsor Hill, and remained there two years. In 1881, he accepted the chair of English literature in the University of Kansas. Spring's literary activity has been largely on historical lines. He was interested in the history of Kansas. His works include Kansas: The Prelude to the War for the Union (1885).
