Kulturwissenschaften Und Nationalsozialismus

The politics of the National Socialists demanded the subjugation of scientific thought and action to its ideology; thus, the absolute conformity of the sciences and their total commission within the system. From this perspective, this volume illustrates the role of the cultural and social sciences within National Socialism, and especially their contribution to the "societal mobilization" as sought by the "Ritterbusch initiative." It focuses on the scientific self-conception of different disciplines and illuminates their position within the spectrum of "cultural sciences" between 1933 and 1945. Additionally, the authors study the attitude of individual scholars towards National Socialism and whether there are perceptible differences between different disciplines. Thus, it also becomes clear which National Socialist official channels were involved in "science politics" and why. German info text: Die nationalsozialistische Politik forderte die Unterwerfung des wissenschaftlichen Denkens und Handelns unter die NS-Ideologie, mithin die vollige Gleichschaltung der Wissenschaften und deren In-Dienst-Stellung in das System. Vor diesem Hintergrund beleuchtet der Band die Rolle kulturwissenschaftlicher Facher im Nationalsozialismus, insbesondere deren Beteiligung an der "gesellschaftlichen Mobilisierung", so wie sie von der "Aktion Ritterbusch" angestrebt wurde. Dabei wird vor allem der Frage nach dem jeweiligen wissenschaftlichen Selbstverstandnis nachgegangen und geklart, welchen Stellenwert die betreffende Disziplin im Spektrum der "Kulturwissenschaften" zwischen 1933 und 1945 einnahm. Daruber hinaus untersuchen die Autoren, wie die Wissenschaftler selbst dem Nationalsozialismus begegneten und ob es hier erkennbare Unterschiede zwischen verschiedenen Wissenschaftsgruppen gab. So zeigt sich auch, welche nationalsozialistischen Instanzen "Wissenschaftspolitik" betrieben und zu welchem Zweck.
