Holman Francis Day (1865-1935) was an American author. He had a career as an editor. His writings include Up in Maine (1901), Pine Tree Ballads (1902), Kin O'Ktaadn (1904), Rainy Day Railroad War (1906; 1913), The Eagle Badge (1908), King Spruce (1908), and The Landloper (1915). The Landloper begins with Walker Farr strolling down a New England country road. From the beginning it is clear Farr is not an ordinary vagabond. ""Chopping down well-holes that have been turned inside out by a cyclone." The man in the highway flashed a wonderful smile at the farmer and passed on. The farmer blinked and then he scowled more savagely. He climbed the fence and followed, carrying his hoe. "Look here, you! There ain't no such business." "Send for me next time you have a well turned wrong side out and I'll prove it."
