Language Revitalization Processes and Prospects Quichua in the Ecuadorian Andes

This work explores educational and community efforts to revitalize the Quichua language in two indigenous Andean communities of southern Ecuador. Analyzing the linguistic, social, and cultural processes of positive language shift, this book contributes to our understanding of formal and informal educational efforts to revitalize threatened languages.

Kendall A. King is currently Assistant Professor of Multilingual Multicultural Studies in the Department of Teaching and Learning at New York University. She obtained her PhD in Educational Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997. In 1999 she was Visiting Associate Professor at the Centre for Research on Bilingualism at Stockholm University. Her research explores language loss and language revitalization processes and their relationship to educational programs and practices for language minority students
