Leadership in John An Analysis of the

The focus of this study was leadership within Johannine Christianity. The objects of study were the Gospel and the Epistles of John. Precedents were found in studies by Doohan (1984, Leadership in Paul) and Elliott (1981, A Home for the Homeless: A Sociological Exegesis of 1 Peter: Its Situation and Strategy). These studies utilized social science methods in order to illumine the phenomenon of leadership in biblical texts. Doohan's study suggested approaching related biblical texts in a systematic manner. Elliott's study suggested the utilization of the concepts of situation and strategy. These suggestions were implemented in this study in a manner appropriate to the context of Johannine Christianity.
