Wendy Sheppard is a talented quilter who has gone from little sewing experience to being an expert in the industry in about 10 short years. Originally from Southeast Asia, Wendy came to the United States at age of 19 to pursue a chemical engineering degree at the University of Arkansas. Upon graduation, she worked in research at the university’s wind tunnel. Her engineering research has made her a stickler for accuracy and precision in her quilting. For her very first quilt, Wendy chose a rather intensive appliqué. Her instructor, Barbara Herring, never told Wendy that particular project was much too hard for a beginner, but rather kindly and patiently taught Wendy through every step of the quilt. After that, Wendy was totally smitten with quilting! Before long, Wendy made her second, third and fourth quilts, and the rest is history. She credits her teacher for not discouraging her and believes that is why she really loves the art of quilting. This is also why she always says, “If Wendy can, anyone can!” Since that first quilt, Wendy’s work has appeared in national and international quilting magazines. In addition to her magazine work, Wendy also does freelance design work for fabric companies and travels to teach at national conferences.
