Leaving Teaching

*Leaving Teaching* tells the story of one teacher's experiences with an educational system that is in crisis. The author writes: "I've been thinking back on my 20 years in teaching, and the changes I've seen in education during that time. It seems to me that the soul has been taken out of teaching, replaced with a boatload of district-led meetings, and a bunch of acronyms: GLE, ELAR, STAR, MYD, CIT. Teachers are being micromanaged by politicians who have little idea what actually goes into being a good teacher. Good teaching isn't something that can be packaged in a nice little box, accompanied by a checklist on a clipboard. Good teaching comes from people who have the ability to adjust and quickly change direction, who can reach their students and know how to capture their interest and engage them, and know how to make learning meaningful for them. "
