Thomas Hill Green was a 19th century British philosopher, political radical and temperance reformer, and a member of the British idealism movement. Green was one of the philosophers who developed the philosophy of social liberalism. Beginning in1878 Green was the Whyte's Professor of Moral Philosophy at Balliol College, Oxford. The lectures he delivered as professor were gathered into his two most important works, the Prolegomena to Ethics and the Lectures on the Principles of Political Obligation, which contain the whole of his positive constructive teaching. Both works were published after his death.
