Letters to Pilgrim

A heartfelt and true story by author, Herbert LePore, Letters to Pilgrim gives readers a glimpse into the private thoughts and lifelong grief felt by the father of an aborted baby. When Herbert LePore found out that his college sweetheart, Willow, was pregnant and planning to abort their baby, he was adamantly opposed to the abortion. Still, Willow and her parents refused to change their minds. Letters to Pilgrim is a collection of letters written by the author to his unborn child. In his letters, he includes his heavenly daughter in the memories and events of his life, interjecting what might have been-if she had been allowed to live.

This book is a written affirmation of the spirit of a little girl who was tragically and selfishly aborted in 1963 in southern California. The author, the father of the unborn baby, has written a poignant story about her hypothetical life, had she had been allowed to live, and its impact upon him over a forty-year period.. The missive encapsulates religious and emotional symbolism, yet the monograph embraces historical facts, actual events and places, and real people--who for purpose respect for anonymity--are cloaked in pseudonyms.The author injects large amounts of candor, critical self-examination, and emotion as he weaves the story of love, pain, anger, denial, and cruelty, and finally redemption by the forgiving of those people responsible for Pilgrim's death. Herbert P. LePore is an adjunct college professor who teaches in the Midwest. He received his Ph.D. in History at the Brigham Young University in 1973, Mr. LePore has been a university professor, and also served as a senior Department of Army historian throughout the country for many years before retiring in 1997. He has co-authored one book, and has written another book, and also has penned numerous historical articles for military and academic journals. He has a son, Michael, who is an economist, and who works in Washington, D.C.
