CATHRYN FALWELL has written and illustrated many award-winning books for children. Falwell's family moved often when she was a child, and like David in this story, drawing was the catalyst for making new friends. As an adult, Falwell became interested in creating multicultural books while working as a volunteer tutor in an inner-city school with a diverse population.
