Carole Hillenbrand is Honorary Professorial Fellow, Professor Emerita at the University of Edinburgh and Professor of Islamic History, University of St Andrews since 2013. She is author of several books including Islam: A New Historical Introduction (2015) and The Crusades (Edinburgh University Press, 1999).
