Desde muy pequeña, Josefina Jarama sueña con una vida mejor y sabe que para llegar hasta ella solo hay una vía, cruda y pragmática: el ascenso social. Este Lazarillo moderno comienza su andadura en una fábrica de juguetes en Ibi, Alicante. Allí es la protegida del jefe y además trabaja junto a su madre, una comunista militante que opera en la clandestinidad y que deberá huir para que no la encarcelen. La protagonista ha de elegir entonces entre su madre o sus sueños en la fábrica, y elige.
Con Josefina y su peripecia, el lector recorre varias décadas de nuestra historia reciente, diversos puntos calientes del «milagro español» y, sobre todo, varias vidas. Animosa, descacharrante y única, Josefina hace realidad un sueño que no se ha propuesto: llegar al corazón.

This modern Lazarillo begins her journey in a toy factory in Ibi, Alicante. There she’s the boss’ protégé and she also works with her mother, a militant communist who operates underground and who must flee to avoid imprisonment. The protagonist then must choose between her mother or her dreams in the factory, and she makes her choice.
With Josefina and her adventures, the reader travels through several decades of our recent history, various hot spots of the “Spanish miracle” and, above all, several lives. Courageous, hilarious, and unique, Josefina makes a dream come true that she has not set out to do: to reach our hearts.
