Who knew Karl's summer break would be filled with bewitched animals, a ghost that's anything but friendly, a fire breathing dragon and powerful magical spells? At age twelve Karl Chen stumbles upon a one hundred year old secret that involves a talking spider and a ton of gold.In The Lost Spells, magic is rediscovered in present day Tucson, Arizona. An old blind witch by the name of Vira haunts a canyon in the foothills of the Rincon Mountains. Fear surrounds the abandoned ranch house that sits on those lands- the same ranch house that Karl and his family moved into after a devastating financial crisis.
