Louis MacNeice is a key twentieth-century poet. His work bears eloquent witness to the wide range of his sympathies and his sensitivity to the complicated times in which he lived. MacNeice's poetry was a significant influence on later Northern Irish poets, notably Seamus Heaney and Derek Mahon, and continues to exert an influence on the practice of poetry in English today.
