Reveals the little-known involvement of middle-class women's organisations such as the Australian Federation of Women Voters and Western Australian Women's Service Guilds. Highlights central achievements such as the 1934 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Status and Conditions in Western Australia. Includes illustrations, notes, bibliography and index. Author is a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Cross-Cultural Research at Australian National University, where she also lectures in women's studies.
