Across more than two decades, he has worked in some of the most revered bars in the world, including as a protegé of the late Sasha Petraske at New York's Milk & Honey, Little Branch and PDT. Michael was named #1 Most Influential Person by Australian Bartender and 4th Most Influential Person by Australian Bartender Magazine. He was included in The Age's Top 100 Most Influential People and is a respected authority and educator in the drinks world, regularly appearing at industry conferences and on spirits and cocktail judging panels across Australia. He is the visionary behind the Made in the Shade group, which owns The Everleigh, The Everleigh Bottling Co, Navy Strength Ice Co, Heartbreaker, and Bar Margaux . He also claims to own one of the largest collections of classic cocktail books in the world.

Zara Madrusan is co-owner of the Made in the Shade group. She landed in Melbourne from London in 2013 and has partnered with Michael Madrusan on the growth and development of the Everleigh family, now known as Made in the Shade, since.
