The Making of EU Foreign Policy, Second Edition The Case of Eastern Europe

This text examines how there has been a common European Union (EU) foreign policy toward six countries of Eastern Europe--Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia--and analyzes why the EU has agreed to this policy. Considering the objective of the EU's policy to support the transformation of Eastern Europe and thus ensure security and stability, Smith focuses on the prospect of enlargement as the most important instrument in achieving this objective.
