Making the Scene

During The 1960s. Toronto's Yorkville district attracted thousands of hippies, bikers, artists, musicians, and curious on lookers alike. Always a contested space, the neighbourhood served as an island of countercultural vibrancy in the centre of 'Toronto the Good.' It was a kaleidoscopic scene a music lover's fantasy, a magnet for young drifters, a street theatre, a flashpoint for controversy, a perpetual block party, a media obsession, and a place where sex was almost as easy to come by as marijuana, speed, and Lsd.
