Mark

The purpose of Mark's Gospel is to bear witness to Jesus Christ as proclaimer and embodiment of the Kingdom of God, and to challenge readers to follow him in anticipation of his final coming as the Son of Man. In the assumption of this Gospel, the best way to bear witness to the coming Kingdom of God and to challenge readers to faithful discipleship is quite simply to tell the story of Jesus. Lamar Williamson's commentary, now in paperback, deals with whole sections of text to be used in teaching and preaching rather than individual verses and words. Exegetical study and hermeneutical reflection are integrated into one expository essay which allows the reader to hear the story of Jesus, and to be compelled to follow him in discipleship.
