The key contribution of this book is that it uses contemporary gender theory to examine gender and rurality beyond that of simply women/femininities. It takes the subject of rural/agricultural men and masculinities and, for the first time, explores them in a full length book.While there has been a growth in the literature on men and masculinities in recent years, the subject has been typically explored through an urban lens. The book therefore investigates new conceptual territory.The book is embedded in the literature on gender and rurality as well as the scholarship on gender and organisations/management as a key case in the book draws on an in-depth ethnographic study of gender relations in an Australian agri-political group.
