Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery

J.M.W. Turner, Graham Sutherland, Walter Sickert, Lucian Freud - these are but a sample of the artists whose works were the subject of a highly publicized dispute between the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and the Beaverbrook Foundation. Now for the first time these major works are set to tour Canada and the United States, beginning in 2012. Accompanying this exhibition is this lavish publication, Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, featuring more than 75 colour reproductions of the works themselves accompanied by an essay on the history of the collection by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s Chief Curator and Deputy Director Terry Graff, and essays on individual masterpieces by six major writer-critics: art historian and Dali scholar Elliott H. King; James Hamilton, author of Turner: A Life; Richard Calvocoressi, director of the Henry Moore Foundation; writer-curator Angus Stewart;  and art historian Katharine Eustace. Rounding out the book is an essay on the history of the dispute with the Beaverbrook Foundations by Beaverbrook Art Gallery director and CEO Bernard Riordon.
