«Una prosa inteligente, precisa, sin concesiones». Kirmen Uribe

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

“An intelligent, precise, uncompromising prose.” —Kirmen Uribe

In this novel, we find summers, cigarettes, pools, hospitals, horses, tiles, cement, sand, letters, plants, fire, vacations, affairs, lies, truths, shame... and alcohol, which impregnates everything, ruins it, and deforms it. Because the father is an alcoholic. And she, the daughter of an alcoholic. But what else is there behind this man who sells construction materials and makes furniture recycling pallets? Although they have lived in the same house for many years, father and daughter barely see each other. They don’t speak nor touch each other; but the looks, smells, and sounds, act as liaisons between them. And the silence, all one cannot and will not say, is more a battlefield than a fortress.

In her first novel, Eider Rodríguez has gathered fragments of a father to rebuild the story of a family, a time and a place from different perspectives with a brutal, discarnate style. The author brings to light the underground flow where love and life travel inside the narrow margins of a familial setting.
