Megiddo

"The capturing of Megiddo is a capturing of a thousand towns." So wrote Thutmosis III, an Egyptian Pharaoh of the fifteenth century BC. Its important as a battleground was also clear to the author of the New Testament book of Revelation, who called it Armageddon, and to many others down to Viscount Allenby in 1918. During the past eighty years German, American and Israeli archaeologists have uncovered the remains of this ancient city, one of the last Canaanite cities to hold out against the Israelites. It then became a royal fortress under such kings as Solomon and Ahab.
