This Collection of dramatic tales of seafaring and shipwrecks originally appeared in the fiftieth and final book of Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo's monumental General and Natural History of the Indies. Oviedo's work remains the single most important sixteenth-century source on the early Spanish presence in the New World. This volume reveals the perils and disasters experienced by travelers to and from the New World between 1492 and 1548, but it has never before been available in an English translation.
