Miss Tibbit's Petticoats

In the early 1900s, Riverside had the highest per-capita income in California, as a consequence of Eliza Tibbets having smuggled in seedless oranges from Brazil. It boasted a polo club, the oldest country club in the state, and mansions to rival anything in Beverly Hills. But the Great Depression put paid to Riverside's glory. That resulting dissolution of hope and prosperity left lives in ruin. This is the story of Mary Elizabeth Callahan, one of those ruined lives.
