This is the story of Arthur Greiser, the man who initiated the Final Solution in Nazi-occupied Poland. As territorial leader of the Warthegau in western Poland, Greiser oversaw the segregation of Germans and Poles, along with the foundation of the first ghetto, one of the largest forced labor programs, and the first mass gassings of Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe. Catherine Epstein gives us a compelling biographical portrait of Greiser the man, from his early years in the German-Polish borderlands, to his pre-war rise through the ranks of the Nazi Party, to his infamous activities during the war itself.
