This book, the first of The QUILL Handbook of Ionic Liquids series, provides a definitive text source detailing the preparation of ionic liquids, their synthesis, purification and subsequent analyses. This tried-and-tested reference work will allow the rapidly growing community of ionic liquid chemists to afford ionic liquids of the highest synthetic and analytical quality while eradicating any doubt as to the enormous potential of ionic liquids as green solvents. Topics include general syntheses of ionic liquids, syntheses of halide-free ionic liquids, and chiral ionic liquids. This book is aimed at any academic or industrial chemist or other researcher currently using or contemplating using ionic liquids.

Kenneth R. Seddon is a professor in the School of Chemistry at the Queen's University of Belfast, Northern Ireland, since 1993. Professor Seddon is Chair of Inorganic Chemistry since 1993 and director of QUILL (Queen's University Ionic Liquid Laboratories) since 1999. Professor Seddon's Research Interests include green chemistry, crystal engineering, ionic liquids for clean technology, phosgene, coordination chemistry and conservation of pre-tenth Century Chinese paper.?He holds a B.Sc. (1970) and Ph.D. (1973) in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, UK and MA (1974) from the University of Oxford, UK.
