The Navajo Year, Walk Through Many Seasons

For the Navajo people, the new year begins in October, when summer meets winter. The Navajo Year, Walk Through Many Seasons follows the Navajo calendar, and provides poetic descriptions of the many sights, sounds, and activities associated with each month. In November, there are string games and stories; in April, planting of corn, beans, and squash; and in July, rodeos and monsoon rains. Follow Coyote through the year, and explore how the Navajos observe the rites and passages of each month.

Nancy Bo Flood currently lives in Shonto, Arizona with her husband Bill and teaches at DinT Navajo College in Tuba City, Arizona. Nancy has conducted workshops on child abuse, learning disabilities, play therapy, as well as creative writing. Her work has focused primarily on children and young adults, as counselor, teacher, or parent. At various times in her life, Nancy has lived in Malawi, Africa, Hawaii, Japan, Saipan in Micronesia in the western Pacific, and, most recently, the Navajo Nation Reservation. No matter where she lives, Nancy is always collecting and making up stories. She believes that storytelling is a powerful way to build compassion and bridge understanding between cultures.Nancy's previous publications include I'll Go To School If..., Pacific Island Legends, and Micronesia: Legends, History, Culture, among many others. The Navajo Year, Walk Through Many Seasons is Nancy's first book with Salina Bookshelf, Inc.
