Occupational Therapy with Children Understanding Children's Occupations and Enabling Participation

The aim of this book is to describe how children acquire skills that allow them to engage in occupations and participate in society at a variety of levels. Where there is a discrepancy between skills acquired against individualistic developmental expectations, the book will suggest suitable interventions for therapists to apply to ameliorate the child's performance. The first section of the book will look at contextual issues, where coverage will include the child's participation in the family, at school and in the community. This fascinating section considers how children's roles are influenced by environments and time use. Section two focusses on skill acquisition, such as handwriting, developing independence in self care and pursuing leisure activities.The book is aimed at students and practitioners of occupational therapy. Sylvia Rodger is Head of Division, and Jenny Ziviani Associate Professor in Occupational Therapy, within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Queensland. Their clinical and academic activities are characterised by a keen focus in paediatric occupational therapy, as evidenced by extensive publications in the field.
