Charles Hunter, a former United States Re-Con Marine, working as an independent contractor for an international security outfit, reluctantly agrees to participate in the rescue of a widow and her eight year old daughter who were being held hostage by a gang of criminals near Caracas, Venezuelan. Hunter had lately become disillusioned by the nature of his assignments, and was thinking of moving on. Although rescue missions made him feel heroic, his reluctance to participate, however, was returning to Venezuela. He had left the country over a year before, and caused pain to those he had left behind, including his former lover.
Minutes after hitting the ground, the rescue mission went off the rails. In order to avoid a complete mission failure, Hunter was compelled to reconnect with his friends to save the little girl and reunite her with her family. Their journey involved far more than traversing the thousand miles from Caracas to the U.S. Hunter and the child were the target of powerful forces, with unlimited resources, who were committed to kill the child, in order to achieve their goal.
The plot twists and turns across several continents, culminating in the historic neighborhood of Overbrook Farms, Philadelphia, where Hunter, with the help of Detective Frank Benson, and Sergeant Ophelia Brown Thurman, of the Philadelphia Police Department ultimately complete the rescue mission.
