One Love Life with Bob Marley and the Wailers

This book is the direct result of a chance meeting in a New York City hotel room in 1973 between the just-about-to-be reggae icon Bob Marley and Lee Jaffe -- a precocious twenty three year old artist and filmmaker with a keenly tuned instinct for history. Within hours these two unlikely collaborators would begin a friendship that would see Jaffe becoming a "Wailer" right down to his dreadlocks, while Bob Marley became a musical legend. At the time of their meeting, Marley was well known in Jamaica, but little known in the rest of the world. Jaffe witnessed Marley's life and increasing fame during the frenzied early years of reggae's development from 1973 to 1976. He was a part of it too, helping organize Marley's first American tour, playing harmonica with the Wailers, and learning Rastafarian ways. And he took wonderful, candid photographs of Bob Marley and the many colorful characters moving through Marley's world.

Lee Jaffe is an artist, photographer, and record producer living in Los Angeles, California. Dividing his time between successful careers in the fine arts and music, Jaffe has produced recordings for his longtime friend Joe Higgs as well as the Wailing Souls, and has collaborated with Barrington Levy, producing songs on his last two albums as well as performing live on stage. As a multimedia artist, Jaffe has had major exhibitions of his work, including solo shows at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden; the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin; and the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, England, among many others For the last thirty years Roger Steffens has been part of the reggae world in almost every way possible -- from a ten-year stint as host of KCRW's "Reggae Beat" to curating a 6,000-piece exhibition of his Reggae Archives at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. He lectures internationally on "the Life of Bob Marley"
