The very idea that the foremost Roman Catholic theologian of the middle ages, Thomas Aquinas, might have been hugely popular in the last days of the Orthodox Byzantine Empire may strike some as fanciful. But popular he was - both among those in favour of and opposed to re-union between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches. This book is the first attempt to explore the long history of Orthodox fascination with Aquinas. The reader of this book will learn muchnot only about Orthodox theology but also about Thomas Aquinas himself.

Marcus Plested has taught, lectured, and published widely in the field of Orthodox Christian studies. His first book was The Macarian Legacy: The Place of Macarius-Symeon in the Eastern Christian Tradition (OUP 2004).
