LARGE PAPERBACK EDITION (6"x9") A warm, hilarious, quirky and thoughtful adventure-fantasy, suitable for older children (8-14) while sufficiently funny, incisive and outrageous to captivate young-at-heart readers of any age. Staid, sensible bank clerk Oswald, and his feckless slow-witted friend Boris, self-unemployed having been sacked from his jobs as cameraman for local radio, chocolate fireguard maker, and full time total eclipse photographer, find themselves snatched from their safe but dreary routines, mysteriously kidnapped in their sleep and dumped on a tropical island in the middle of nowhere. Their quest to uncover the identity and motives of their kidnappers, and to find a way home, takes the intrepid adventurers on a perilous journey peppered with near-death experiences, as they brave watery tunnels, sheer mountain faces, plunging waterfalls, and an unfathomable underground maze. Along the way they encounter island folk with varying degrees of insanity, such as a furious smallholder in search of his stolen armpits, a bruised elderly couple whose rocking chairs and mouths are frankly out of control, and a macabre, intimidating, skipping midget who offers them only riddles which they must decode in order to stay alive. More baffling still is the island's ambiguous wildlife, which has followed a bizarre evolutionary path, seemingly enabling it to change form at will. Finally, the assembled misfits discover what they all have in common, unlock the secret behind their transportation to this paradoxical paradise, and unmask their kidnappers. But will the new, improved, wiser, braver and worldlier Oswald and Boris ever make it back home...? JUST LOOK AT THESE FABULOUS REVIEWS...
