With degrees from UCLA and Princeton, he is the author of Sermons at Court: Religion and Politics in Elizabethan and Jacobean Preaching (Cambridge, 1998), editor of Lancelot Andrewes: Selected Sermons and Lectures (Oxford, 2005), and, with Emma Rhatigan and Hugh Adlington, The Oxford Handbook of the Early Modern Sermon (Oxford, 2010).
