A Parliament of Minds: Philosophy for a New Millennium

The companion volume to a national public television series of the same name showcases the views of 23 philosophers (pictured) -- selected from 3,000 attending the Twentieth World Congress of Philosophy (1998) -- on what philosophy can contribute in the 21st century. Issues range from the science of gender issues (Nancy Tuana) and bridges between China and the West (Wei-ming), to dialogs on "wild thinking" (philosophy, ecology, and technology); prospects for democracy (J. Stuhr); and global thought and spirituality (A. Gangadean, K. Singh, E. Cousins, and R. Muller). Some references are informally interspersed in the text.
