What significance does ancient myth play in (post)modernity? This volume traces the story of tragic Phaethon back to the Archaic Period of Greece. The myth was widely taken up in literature and art, and found its way into the history of mobility: in the 18-Century, elegant sports coaches were named Phaethon and at the end of the 19th Century luxury cars were also given the name. The interdisciplinary conference in Dresden followed the conjuncture of the ancient myth from its beginnings in Hesiod to the present. The contributions explore the capital of a myth which is deeply rooted in the collective memory in politics, art, music, and literature. German text.
