Caught between the Political instability of Nepal following the massacre of the Royal Family, and the ever-increasing presence of Maoist Insurgents in the cobbled streets of Kathmandu; Bhopu, an overly-sensitive Nepali teenager, is suddenly confronted with a decision! It is a decision which will alter the path that his obscure life is leading him. Fleeing the country of his birth, with its familiar streets, smells and languid Himalayan splendor, he journeys to London in the vain hope of tracking down an Aristocratic collector of Tibetan 'tankas'. His adventures lead him into the very hostile heart of a contemporary society, out of control on designer drugs, Consumerism, T.V violence and the loss of self. Encountering love and friendship, self-destruction, loss and betrayal and finally; to suffering the humiliation of institutionalization and imprisonment, Bhopu must sell the prized artifact he has in his possession, in order to survive. And simply staying alive becomes even harder for Bhopu, when an organization of religious fanatics begins pursuing him, intent on destroying what he needs to discover in order to regain his own self-identity. Ultimately, 'A Place We Can Remain' is tale of how one ordinary youth tries to salvage renewal from the ruins his life has become.
