Police Ethics and Values

The recent introduction of directives, legislation and Codes of Standards has demanded a more principled and professional approach to policing. This book is aimed at students taking undergraduate programmes in policing and police-related disciplines who need to have a clear and comprehensive understanding of police ethics and values, and how this is understood in policy and applied in an operational setting. It discusses the range, importance and complexity of ethical issues faced by law enforcement practitioners and policy makers, introduces the key concepts of ethics, professionalism and policing, and relates these to key themes within policing.
