Police Performance Appraisals: A Comparative Perspective

Employing the comparative case study approach, this book first reviews the literature on best practices in performance appraisals and then compares police departments in Ankara, Turkey with those in Toledo, Ohio. It then compares each department with the best practices as described in the literature. This study yields important findings and valuable insights for both departments as well as other police organizations as to which characteristics an appraisal system should have for the best quality system. Through comparing different departments in different countries, the book provides readers with useful components of an effective performance appraisal system.
