"Poetry is a packsack of invisible keepsakes," so said Carl Sandburg. Indeed, without our personal keepsakes of pleasure, inspiration and truth, the greatest and lowliest of novels and poems would remain unwritten. Once an ambivalent reader of poetry, I eventually discovered wonderful music by the artistry of a poet as he or she plucked my heartstrings. It can be as one eternal round, as Robert Frost put it, "Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words," and I add, in a poet's words is found emotion. What she or he imparts can be a distillation of all in life that is worth remembering and in this "packsack of keepsakes" will be found some of your same personal keepsakes worth remembering.
