The life cycle engineering method has evolved to meet the demands of the current trend towards sustainable civil engineering and building. This holistic approach encompasses all aspects of the construction practice, from design, construction, and service life management, to demolition and the recycling of materials. A reduction in the negative impact of deteriorating civil engineering structures and building stock on resources, the environment, human safety and health requires a predictive system of management, employing a wide range of techniques. This book includes a description of an integrated and predictive Life Cycle Maintenance and Management Planning System (LMS), describing reliability systematics, the process of MR&R (Maintenance, Repair and Rehabilitation) planning, degradation models and fundamental methods for using this system.
