It is the story of an intelligent person raised in controlled conditions of the theoretical social paradise, who is later given an opportunity of becoming part of the totally different way of life. The private accounts of family members who participated in historical events such as World War I, the Russian revolution, and World War II, the cold war and the collapse of the Soviet Union add new dimensions to our understanding of the past that shaped our present and still defines our future.Given the opportunity to start anew in the west, the author has a unique position of being able to see both sides of the curtain that separated communism and capitalism.
