This does not aim to be yet another book on counselling. The author does not approach counselling from any particular approach but instead looks at how people think, feel and act during the counselling process. It looks in particular at what counsellors can learn from contemporary psychology, starting with social psychology, moving onto cognitive processes, individual differences and psychological development. The book helps address many questions such as 'How important is the counsellors/ clients memory in conducting effective counselling sessions.' Written in a refreshing style each of the main chapters begin with a case vignette reflecting the ideas of the chapter and providing concrete illustrations of abstract ideas. A summary of ideas that counsellors can apply in their practice follows the main sections of each chapter, and the author summarises the main conclusions in bullet point style.
