Public Participation in Foreign Policy

Experts from academia, governments, think tanks, NGOs, trade unions, and businesses investigate whether the public should play a greater role in foreign policy making by analyzing their current role in the Iraq war (USA), Post-Apartheid (South Africa), trade relations with China (New Zealand) and other cases.

James Headley is Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Otago, New Zealand. His research interests include Russian foreign policy, nationalism and ethnic conflict, constructivist IR theory, European Union enlargement, and New Zealand and Australian foreign policies. Andreas Reitzig specializes in foreign policy in the Asia-Pacific region as well as strategic and defence studies. He is the author of Trans-Tasman Defence Relations: The Anzacs, ANZUS and Beyond (2010). Joe Burton is writing a PhD at the University of Otago on NATO's durability in the post-Cold War era. His other research interests include International Security, International Relations and US domestic and foreign policy. He has a wide range of teaching experience in political science and has worked as an advisor for New Zealand Parliamentary Services.
