Remembering Cleveland

From its birth to the present, Cleveland has consistently built and reshaped its appearance, ideals, and industry. Baughman provide a valuable and revealing historical retrospective on the growth and development of Cleveland. Remembering Cleveland captures this journey through still photography selected from the finest archives. From the city¿s earliest days to the recent past, Remembering Cleveland follows life, government, education, and events throughout the city¿s history. This volume captures unique and rare scenes through the lens of more than a hundred historic photographs. Published in vivid black-and-white, these images communicate historic events and everyday life of two centuries of people building a unique and prosperous city.

Ronald L. Burdick joined the Cleveland Public Library in 2002. In March 2004 he was promoted to head of the history and geography department, Louis Stokes wing of the main library, which includes the map and photograph collections. Previously he directed two historical societies and historic preservation offices with Defiance College and the Ohio Historic Preservation Office. He has a bachelors of science degree in history and a masters degree in library science. Since 2000 Margaret L. Baughman has been the photograph collection librarian at Cleveland Public Library. The photograph collection has approximately 1.3 million photographs, primarily from local newspaper morgues and the Newspaper Enterprise Association, documenting people, places, and events from the late nineteenth century to the 1990s. The collection also holds works of well-known and established northeast Ohio photographers. Baughman has a masters degree in library and information science.
