Republic

Republic tells the story of a young woman growing up in West Wales the 1980s and 90s, following a boom in politics, culture and Cwl Cymru. Stories told, overheard, and handed down, mostly in Welsh, create an expansive portrait of the era, including challenges for women, Welsh-speakers, and other marginalized groups.

Nerys Williams now lives in Dublin but is originally from Pen-Y-Bont, Carmarthen. Her debut collection of poetry Sound Archive was published in 2011. Nerys is a native Welsh speaker and has worked as a Sound Librarian at BBC Wales, and is a recipient of a Fulbright Scholar’ s Award at UC Berkeley. A recent winner of the Ted McNulty Poetry Prize, she lectures in American Literature at University College, Dublin. She has published poems and critical essays widely, and is the author of A Guide to Contemporary Poetry as well as study of contemporary American poetry, Reading Error.
